Don’t miss Curzon’s free student screening next week
Love film? Back in Canterbury this Monday? Curzon are running a FREE student screening of Andrew Haigh’s Lean on Pete on Monday 30th April. You can book your free ticket here. The event is strictly for students, so make sure you bring your Student ID with you on the night.
In the impoverished outskirts of Portland, Oregon, teenager Charley (Charlie Plummer) lives with his troubled single father Ray (Travis Fimmel), and seeks a sense of escape in a job at the local racetrack, caring for a racehorse called Lean on Pete. Charley soon forges a strong bond with the horse, and befriends its owner Del Montgomery (Steve Buscemi) and its jockey, Bonnie (Chloe Sevigny). After Del discloses that Lean on Pete is to be sold off, however, Charley frees the horse and they both set off for the open road in search of a warmer place to call home. A frontier story without the American dream, this film takes a moving and hopeful look at those who live bleak times of uncertainty.
With the film so far receiving stellar reviews and with a stand-out cast, its an opportunity not to be missed.
